It’s that time of year when massive flocks of “blackbirds” gather by the thousands around cornfields and other agricultural areas. These massive flocks are often a mix of European Starlings, Common Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Brown-headed Cowbirds, and a scattering of other species. Next time you spot one of these flocks, grab your binoculars and see how many species you can pick out in the crowd!
